What we make and don't make
Aurora has four products: Email Studio, Document Distill, Meeting Recall, and Invoice Triage. Each one does a specific document-flavored task that small US businesses pay junior staff to do today — or, more often, do themselves at 9pm.
We are deliberate about not building a general-purpose AI assistant. There are excellent ones already. What is missing in this category — and what we are betting on — is small, well-tested, well-bounded utilities that read and write specific formats reliably, without trying to talk back.
Why a Sole Proprietorship
The simplest legal form available to a US founder. Aurora Ventures is registered as a Sole Proprietorship in Texas because the founder, James Anderson, has not (and may never) raise outside capital, take on co-founders, or hire employees. The product is built and operated by one person.
The trade-off: certain things become unavailable. Aurora cannot apply for VC funding, cannot directly issue stock, and cannot offer health insurance — none of which we plan to do. The benefit: the legal overhead is essentially zero, and the company can ship a product without spending 30% of its time on incorporation logistics.
James Anderson · Founder & Operator
James has been writing software professionally since 2014. Prior to Aurora he led infrastructure and developer tooling at two mid-stage US SaaS companies, focusing on document workflows and small-team productivity. He moved from Austin to Irving in early 2024 to start Aurora.
Where the data lives
All Aurora customer data is stored in Amazon Web Services US-East-2 (Ohio) — the primary region — with a small mirrored configuration in US-East-1 (N. Virginia) for high-availability. We do not replicate, back up, or mirror any customer data outside the United States.
We use Anthropic Claude on Amazon Bedrock for primary inference, with regional inference profiles to keep traffic in-region. Anthropic's enterprise data terms apply through the Bedrock subscription; no customer content is used to train models.
What we do not do
We do not sell customer data. We do not have an advertising business. We do not have a freemium tier (customers either pay, or they are an invited design partner). We do not use cross-site tracking or session replay. We do not require accounts to read the marketing pages of this website.
Roadmap (such as it is)
Aurora is in private beta with 38 design partners through July 2026. Public beta opens late summer 2026 if (and only if) the four utilities reach the quality bar we have set for each. No fifth utility is in the roadmap until the first four are loved.
